What are the Best Practices of Setting Description Meta in SEO?


What is Description?

Description is the summary of a page within two to three lines or a small Para. Description is for search engines and their crawlers not for humans. Description is places in HTML tags in the head section of each page. Like title description of each page must be different for the best practices of SEO. Command use for description in HTML is following.

<Meta name=”description” content=”Here will be our description”>

Titles are about one sentence in length but descriptions are about a small Para, in some cases description is also called snippet of page.

Where Descriptions of pages are shown?

Description is set in each html page separately. In search results below the domain name a snippet shows called description of the page. If we not set our description in the HTML tags of our pages then Google will might get from ODP (Open directory Projects). Description also shows the Relevancy and summary of topic and page content.

Best Practices of Setting Description Meta in SEO:


1.       Description of each page must be different.
2.       Description must be according to topic.
3.       Description must not be too long about 2-3 lines.
4.       Don’t Stuff only keywords in Description.
5.       Don’t create a description that is not relevant to the article or topic or title.
6.       There must be relation in title, keyword and description of a page.
7.       Don’t use Conventional or generic description in pages.
